Guanidine Accelerators in the Adsperse Range

With the ever-increasing changes in the worldwide Polymer Industry, there is a statutory requirement to oversee and implement compliance with regulations regarding EU/UK Reach, EU10/2011 and BfR. Prisma Rubber Additives is committed to the implementation of these principles across its complete range of products with particular focus on the guanidine accelerators in its portfolio:

DPG (N.N’-Diphenylguanidine)

DOTG (1,3-Di-o-tolylguanidine)

DPG

  • Is used as a secondary accelerator in combination with thiazoles and sulfenamides in most sulphur-cured rubbers.
  • However, it shows the classic synergistic effects when used with thiazoles and sulfenamides, giving faster cure rates and higher levels of mechanical properties in most elastomers.
  • It tends not to be used by itself as it tends to be very slow and has a short scorch time.
  • In Butyl [IIR] and EPDM, DPG has little effect. It is useful though in cure packages as a replacement for ETU in mercaptan-modified Polychloroprene.

DOTG

  • Is used as a secondary accelerator in combination with thiazoles, thiurams, sulfenamides and dithiocarbamates accelerators in most sulphur-cured rubbers.
  • Like DPG it shows the classic synergistic effects, crosslinking density and rate of cure are increased with the added increase in mechanical properties and increased ageing resistance.
  • DOTG exhibits better processing safety than DPG.

As both Guanidine’s discolour on vulcanisation, they are not suggested for use in pastel or bright coloured compounds. Also, despite being compliant for use in compounds that have contact with food, they are not recommended as they can impart a bitter taste.

All DOTG/DPG encapsulated products are available in 70/75/80% concentrations as part of the Adsperse range.

Guanidine accelerator masterbatches are part of Prisma Rubber Additives’ extensive range of products, based on our unique binder systems which have been well established over many years. The full range of Adsperse products for the rubber compounding sector are as follows:

  • Thiurams
  • Thiazoles
  • Sulfenamides
  • Dithiocarbamates
  • Dithiophosphates
  • Thioureas
  • Guanidines
